SECTION B
Question numbers 31 – 38 are very short answer type. Answer any six of these Questions. Each question carries 2 marks.
Q31. The colour of copper sulphate solution is ___, but it turns ___ when iron is
dipped in it.
Answer:- The colour of copper sulphate solution is blue, but it turns Green when iron is dipped in
it. ( This happens because iron is more reactive and displaces the copper, forming iron sulphate )
Q32. Give reason:
Platinum, gold and silver are used to make jewellery.
Answer:- Reason: Platinum, gold, and silver are used to make jewellery because they are lustrous, malleable, ductile, and resistant to corrosion. These properties make them easy to shape into attractive designs and ensure that they do not tarnish or rust over time.
Q33. Why does the Sun look reddish at sunrise and sunset?
Answer:– At sunrise and sunset, the sunlight has to travel through a thicker layer of the
atmosphere to reach our eyes. During this long journey, most of the blue light (which has a shorter wavelength) is scattered away by air particles. Only the red light (which has a longer wavelength) scatters the least and reaches our eyes, making the Sun appear reddish.
Q34. Carbon exists in two forms X and Y. X is the hardest natural Substance, whereas Y is a good conductor of electricity.Identify X and Y .
Answer:- X (hardest natural substance) is Diamond. And Y (good conductor of electricity) is Graphite.
Q35. Which part of the human brain is:-
(I) Main thinking part of the brain
Answer:- The main thinking part of the brain is the Cerebrum
(II)Responsible for maintaining the balance and posture of the body?
Answer:- The part responsible for balance and posture is the Cerebellum.
Q36. Give the characteristic tests for the following gases
a) CO2
Answer:– CO2 (Carbon Dioxide): When CO2 gas is passed through lime water , it turns the lime
water milky.
b) SO2
Answer:- SO2 (Sulphur Dioxide): This gas has a pungent, choking smell It can decolorize a purple- coloured solution of potassium permanganate.
Q37. Write the functional groups present in:
A) Propanone
Answer:– Functional group: Ketone (–CO–)
B) Propanal
Answer:- Functional group: Aldehyde (–CHO)
C) Propanol
Answer:- Functional group: Alcohol (–OH)
D) Propanoic acid
Answer: Functional group: Carboxylic acid (–COOH)
Q38. Name the type of blood (oxygenated/ deoxygenated )that the Following parts carry and also mention the path through Which they carry blood
I)Pulmonary artery
Answer:– Type of blood: Deoxygenated blood
Path: It carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs for oxygenation.
II)Vena cava
Answer:- Type of blood: Deoxygenated blood Path: It carries deoxygenated blood from all parts of the body back to the right atrium of the heart.
SECTION C
Question numbers 39 – 46 are short answer type. Answer any six of these Questions. Each
question carries 3 marks.
Q39. A solution of a substance ‘x’ is used for whitewashing.
i) Name the substance x and write its formula.
ii) Write the reaction of the substance x named in (i)above With water.
Answer:-
A solution of substance ‘X’ is used for whitewashing.
(i) The substance ‘X’ is Calcium oxide (Quicklime) and its formula is CaO.
(ii) When calcium oxide reacts with water, it forms calcium hydroxide (slaked lime). The reaction is:
CaO + H₂O → Ca(OH)₂
Q40. If two magnetic field lines were to intersect each other at a Point, what contradiction would arise? Explain why, on this Basis, magnetic field lines can never intersect each other.
Answer:- If two magnetic field lines intersect, then at the point of intersection a compass needle would show two different directions of the magnetic field. But this cannot happen because the magnetic field at a point can have only one direction.
Therefore, magnetic field lines never intersect each other.
Q41. You have two solutions X and Y. The Ph of solution X is 6 And that of Y is 8.Which of the
solutions has more hydrogen Ion concentration? Which of the solutions is acidic and Which one is
basic?
Answer:- We know that substances having pH less than 7 are acidic and substances having pH more than 7 are basic. So, solution X with pH 6 is acidic and solution Y with pH 8 is basic. Also, since the pH of X is lower, solution X has more hydrogen ion concentration than solution Y.
Q42. A)How does use of fuse wire protect electrical appliances?
b)Calculate the resistance of an electric bulb which allows a 10A current when connected to a 220V power source?
Answer:- (a) A fuse wire protects electrical appliances by melting when extra current flows through the circuit. When the fuse melts, it breaks the circuit and stops the flow of excessive current, which prevents damage to the appliances.
(b) Given:
Current (I) = 10 A , Voltage (V) = 220 V
Formula:
R=V/I
R= 200/10
R= 22 Ohm
Q43. What are decomposers? What will happen in their absence from the ecosystem?
Answer:– Decomposers are organisms such as fungi and bacteria that break down dead plants and animals into simpler substances. If decomposers were not present in the ecosystem, dead bodies and waste would keep piling up and nutrients would not return to the soil. As a result, plants would not get nutrients and the balance of the ecosystem would get disturbed.
